I am an applied microeconomist, and my research focuses on education, public, and labor economics with a particular interest on the design and evaluation of policies and phenomena in educational systems. Particularly, I study how educational systems, policies, interventions, and markets shape human capital accumulation for students, teachers, and other agents. Moreover, I analyze the role of education institutions on policy implementation, as well as policies' spillovers in the education system that yield substantial (and sometimes unintended) outcomes.
I earned a MS in Economics in 2025 and a BS in Industrial Engineering in 2023, both from the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Chile, where I graduated Cum Laude. Here you can find my CV. You can contact me at josecalderon@ug.uchile.cl.

I am a huge football fan, and I vividly support Colo-Colo and Tottenham Hotspur. I am an avid collector of football cards and sticker albums, with my collection spaning from 1950 to date, and tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Euro, Copa America, Copa Libertadores, and any local league championships that you can imagine. I am proud to say that I have built this collection and passion alongside my father.
I look for any excuses to ride my bike, and I love to show off by cooking recipes I see online. I am a proud son of two North Chileans, so I enjoy seafood as often as I can. I have a wonderful sister who is also a researcher in the social sciences, focusing in the Sociology of Religion. Check out her work.
